DIVISION I

2 YEAR PROGRAM

CORE CURRICULUM: Conditioning, Classical Ballet Technique

Division I students range between 6 – 8 years of age and study 2 – 3 times per week. These are the first two formal years of study in the JP Division program. The Division I syllabus lays the foundation for all future levels of study and demands a high level of focus.

The Division I curriculum builds in complexity over two semesters, developing placement and articulation of classical footwork at an early age, while fostering an advanced knowledge of classical positions and vocabulary. All exercises in the Division I level begin facing the barre, to facilitate better focus on placement and turnout, as well as the student’s ability to self-analyze their work in the mirror.

By the completion of the two-year Division I program, students are expected to demonstrate solid rudiments of technique and an advanced understanding of basic classical vocabulary.

All Division I students qualify to perform at competition and will be selected to perform a solo part in the end of year concert.
